Cubase 5 Templates

By Paul - Posted on 11 December 2010

I have a day job, and so when I am able to compose and record music, I need to maximize the time I have to spend on it. How do I do this? One of the ways is to set up templates in Cubase.

I could easily spend 20 to 30 minutes setting up a new project before I even record one note. Templates are easy to set up and use, but can save a lot of time. Over the last several years I have set up about 8 different templates for different types of music I record.

What do I set up in these templates you ask? A number of different things including, but limited to:

  • Mixer Settings
  • Transport Settings
  • Virtual Instruments
  • Input and Output Buses

You get the idea. The next time you start a project, but before you start recording, think of all the settings you use over and over again and set these up. Then go to the main menu: File->Save As Template, type in a name, and click "Ok".

The next time you start a project your template will appear in the list of canned templates that are provided with the Cubase installation. If you think of something else, you can always add to or modify your template and save it again.

Hope this is helpful. If you already use templates, well then happy recording!
