A Cubase 6 Upgrade Project?

By Paul - Posted on 15 January 2011

I don't know if I've been living under a rock or what, but I just realized today that Cubase 6 is out. It seems like I just upgraded to Cubase 5 not too long ago, although in reality it has been a couple years.

So I have some decisions to make, the biggest of which: Is it worth upgrading to Cubase 6 at this point?

Over the next couple weeks I'll be doing some more research on if Cubase 6 is right for me; I have several items to keep in mind:

  • Cubase 6 Requires Windows 7, I am currently running Windows XP.
  • An upgrade to Windows 7 is actually a clean install, so I will have to reload all my recording software and plug-ins.
  • This is probably hours worth of work, if not several days worth of work; reloading all my software will be very time consuming.

The price is definitely right: $150.00 for an upgrade from Cubase 5. However I also need to factor in the cost of upgrading to Windows 7, not to mention the time it'll take for the whole process.

Below is a link to Steinberg's web site for Cubase 6. It includes some videos explaining the new version.

Have fun,
Paul
