Cubase Markers
I have just recently started using markers within Cubase (I am currently on Cubase 5) a lot more, and now I’m wondering why it took me so long to start using them when recording music with Cubase.
Markers can be used to quickly jump to a certain point quickly in your project and are very handy for navigating around the project.
There are two types of markers: Cycle and standard. Standard markers simply mark a position in your project that you can jump to at any time. Cycle markers save a beginning and an end position; with this type of marker, you can group different sections of your song for quick access or cycling (looping).
What I usually do now is create a marker track at the very top of my project (Project->Add Track->Marker), then start adding cycle markers to group sections of my song (verse 1, chorus, verse 2, bridge, etc). If I want to jump to verse 2, I simple click the associated marker number on the transport, and my cursor moves to the saved position.
With cycle markers, I can also quickly set the beginning and end locators that were saved by the marker. After you set up all your markers, bring up the marker track and go to the “Cycle” pulldown in the lower left. Select the section you want to cycle and left and right locators will automatically be set. Then just press the Loop button on the transport and push play.
